This project seeks to image abnormal retinal pericyte vasospasms after ocular trauma in mice, and their relationship to retinal macrophage activity, and oral administration of L-Arginine. In the first year we overcame significant technical difficulties with in vivo fluorescent labeling of retinal pericytes, using both fiber-optic confocal and multiphoton microscopic imaging techniques, and we successfully established the imaging protocol for in vivo retinal pericyte imaging with simultaneous measurement of microspasms in retinal capillary beds.
