Results are presented of an experimental polarimetric technique to measure strain in opaque objects. Experiments were conducted utilizing metamaterials on polydimethylsiloxane PDMS sheets to produce strain-induced birefringence at terahertz frequencies. Preliminary measurements are encouraging and show a qualitative agreement with theoretical predictions.
