This project was a collaboration between USACEHR and APHC Div Tox Path to process and microscopically evaluate kidney and liver tissues from rats intraperitoneally injected with sodium dichromate dihydrate for a project to identify molecular markers in blood or urine that predict or indicate liver andor kidney injury resulting from exposure to specific metal intoxication. The investigator aims to validate hypothesized adverse outcome pathways in rats exposed to toxic metals to identify less invasive, rapid biomarkers that could be used in early disease progression. Sodium dichromate dihydrate caused persistent inflammation on the peritoneal surface of liver and kidney tissues after a single injection.
