Abstract:

This proposal addresses the treatment of segmental bone defects and methods that can be used to manipulate the Masquelet induced membrane IM to create a graft bed that optimizes bone regeneration. The results showed that scraping the inner surface of the induced membrane provided a highly desirable environment that promoted more bone regeneration by exposing the autograft placed in the defect site to fresh blood and competing non-osteogenic cells.
