Abstract:

Cameron first described the cracked tooth as an incomplete fracture of vitalposterior teeth involving dentin and possibly pulpal tissues. According to the American Association of Endodontists, a cracked tooth is defined as an incomplete, greenstick fracture that is initiated from the crown and extends subgingivally. The overall incidence of patients with a cracked tooth referred to a private endodonticpractice over a six year period was 9.7 in a population of 8,175 patients. When diagnosed with reversible pulpitis and restored with a crown, 21 of these teeth werereported to require endodontic treatment within six months.
