The report details insertion loss measurements from multiple types of hearing protection devices in order to examine the nonlinearity of insertion loss. Tests were conducted in continuous noise from 55 to 130 decibels dB and impulsive noise from 110 to 170 dB peak sound pressure levels. Results show that predictive models for the protective capacity of hearing protection should account for variability in insertion loss, depending on the incident sound pressure level.
