The purpose of this report is to present the findings of a usability evaluation of the course authoring tools found within the Generalized Intelligent Framework for Tutoring GIFT, version 20143. Specifically, a heuristic evaluation was conducted on the GIFT authoring tool interfaces, as well as the process by which the software is acquired and installed. This report describes the specific findings of the evaluation, along with recommendations for interface improvements. Finally, the findings are discussed as recommendations that can be applied throughout the GIFT authoring tools. Those recommendations for future consideration and improvement include matching the design of the system and interface language to users mental models, assuring internal consistency of user interfaces and object labels, assisting users with content organization and error prevention, and providing a current and consistent help and documentation experience throughout the authoring tools.
