Abstract:
This report presents the results of a research project about the application of automated reasoning and machine learning approaches to support the Intelligence Preparation of the BattlefieldOperational Environment IPBIPOE process. Analysts conducting IPBIPOE are faced with information and cognitive overload problems. The research initiative described in this report intends on supporting IPBIPOE analysts with Self-Improving Inference Systems SIIS. To achieve this goal, literature and technological surveys as well as expert interviews and workshops were conducted. A functional decomposition of IPOE was also performed. Following the results from these tasks, two prototype systems were developed in order to support analysts performing IPBIPOE.
