Fracture parameters were identified and approximate analytical descriptions of their influence on strength of the adhesive joints was developed. After an initial screening of potential materials, physical and mechanical properties of one brittle and one ductile adhesive were measured in Phase I. Properties were then used in stress analyses and fracture reations were deve-loped in Phase II. Special features of the analyses were de-tailed and particular parameters of adhesive joints were quanti-fied under Phase III. Surface characteristics of a standard chrome-acid etched aluminum adherend were also measured and an analogue material is suggested as a replacement for water in measuring surface wettability.
