Abstract:
Structural reliability analysis procedures were evaluated for estimating the variability in fighter aircraft fatigue performance. The expected magnitude of this variability was determined based on an investigation of scatter in fatigue test results for aluminum structures. This study revealed that 1 the scatter for spectrum fatigue tests is considerably less than for constant amplitude fatigue tests 2 the Weibull probability distribution provides a better fit of the spectrum data than the log-normal and 3 the Weibull shape parameter alpha is 5.27.
