Abstract:
Three aspects related to the development of the strapdown micro-navigator MICRON system have been investigated. By comparing the present Micro-ElectroStatic Gyro MESG drift rate and attitude readout error models with a previously developed mathematical modeling theory, expressions for many of the model coefficients were derived and the corresponding error mechanisms were defined. The equations for the simultaneous calibration of both the MESG drift rate and attitude readout error model coefficients from a single set of data have been derived. The approach to be used in the subsequent development of an operational unified calibration technique from these equations has been defined. A performance analysis program has been developed and coded. This program simulates the prominent MESG error mechanisms and duplicates the MICRON mechanization equations. The program has been used to investigate mechanization and iteration rate dependent navigation errors in the MICRON system. Author
