Abstract:
CivilAir Force joint-user airfields require an arresting system for high-performance military aircraft and yet an unobstructed runway for civil aircraft. For this reason, the BAK-14 retractable hook-cable support system was developed. The primary test objectives were to evaluate bidirectional capability and to provide information concerning maintenance and replacement of consumables. To completely evaluate the system, 100 project events were conducted during the test program 97 events using the BAK-14 hook-cable support system and 3 events using standard Navy donut hook-cable supports to establish base-line data. There were 96 consecutive successful engagements using the BAK-14 the remaining event was a bolter considered not attributable to the BAK-14, Engaging speeds ranged from 37 to 170 knots. Since the 96 engagements satisfied Air Force requirements the system can be accepted for use.
