Abstract:

A study was conducted to provide 1 an analysis of avionic subsystem mechanizations, 2 a summary of system mechanization precautions, 3 a tabulation of avionic signal flow, and 4 groundflight test recommendations. The subsystem mechanization analysis was a determination of the feasibility and extent to which a central multiprocessor could provide functions presently performed within the subsystems. Selected A-7D subsystems and additional conceptual subsystems were examined. It was concluded that virtually all of the functions provided by the Flight Director Computer, Air Data, Computer, NAVWD Computer, and Terrain Following Computer could be performed by a central processor. The Automatic Flight Control System functions could be handled by a central processor, put the reliability-redundancy-safety questions require further examination. Significant portions of the Head-Up Display, Armament Station Control Unit, and the Laser Spot Tracker could also be provided by a central processor. The mechanization precautions section summarizes perplexities encountered during the integration of the A-7D avionic system. The signal flow tabulation presents the number, type and response of signals utilized in the present A-7D avionic system. Test recommendations were given for an assumed avionic system configuration.
