Abstract:
The effect of solar flares upon radio communication on earth has been established, and is one of the chief reasons for interest in solar-geophysical phenomena. Voluminous data have been laboriously collected and analyzed, but the existence of discrepancies among observations made to date indicates a need for more facile data acquisition and more objective techniques of classification. The project reported here achieves these objectives via the development of a digital videometer system with computer control of acquisition and analysis. The system brings real-time prediction capability within reach for the first time. Author
