Abstract:
The primary purpose of this effort was to provide a preliminary indication of the advantages, disadvantages, problems, andor potentials of compliant raceway design techniques. The program included the analysis of existing reports and data along with test efforts completed in this area. In addition, testing was conducted on 20 mm bore bearings to provide experimental preliminary definition data. Overall results indicated both positive and negative findings for compliant bearing design. It was concluded that application of the concept would become highly specialized and would require substantial control in its design and use. A detailed analysis of this problem area was made and successful solutions to the problem were found.
