Abstract:

A pursuit logic analysis is performed and implemented in a computer model which analytically simulates tactical aerial gunnery combat between two opposing fixed armament aircraft. The object of the logic study was to improve the performance of the model by the implementation of lead pursuit. This is achieved by incorporating the option of using either a first or second order approximation of the target aircraft motion. The original version of the TAC-AVENGER Program only offers a probabilistic solution to the probability of kill question in regard to air-to-air gunnery situations. This report documents the terminal effective portion of the Simulation of Tactical Aerial Gunnery STAG Program of a deterministic solution for the probability of kill. A listing of only a portion of the STAG Program is given as an appendix to this report. The results of selected cases are compared using probabilistic and deterministic solutions of the model along with the various pursuit courses available in the simulation. Author
