Abstract:

This paper fulfills a course requirement leading to a Masters Degree in Mass Communication from Shippensburg State College. The author was required to locate, interpret, and analyze source documents related to Instructional Technology. Specifically, the following directions were issued and followed 1 Define the term Instructional Technology, 2 Define Systems Approach to education, and 3 Discuss the impact of Instructional Technology and Systems Approach on todays educational scene. The principal conclusions presented are the Instructional Technology is a common sense approach to combining available machines and personnel in a way to elicit maximum transfer of learning in a minimum amount of time, while maintaining the student at a high level of motivation. The Systematic Approach to education is an integral part of this technology. It is a plan or strategy that affords efficient teaching. Finally, the impact of technology is so great that, without careful planning, schools will be purchasing instructional hardware as a status symbol rather than for a tool to increase learning. The problem is education of the older teachers to accept and properly use the new techniques. Author
