Abstract:

Tactical air operations in the 1975-1985 period for various combinations of manned and unmanned vehicles were examined from the viewpoint of planning, directing, controlling, and monitoring. Critical command, control, and communications CCC impact areas due to the introduction of drones in tactical air operations were determined. Based upon a survey of command control, and communications technology and present and projected Tactical Air Control System TACS capabilities, a conceptual design of an interim 1975 TACSDrone CCC System was developed to provide the capability for integration of command and control of multiple drones. A modificationsimprovements evolutionary program MIEP was defined, depicting the steps to be taken to provide the interim capability as well as the evolutionary growth through 1985. A major conclusion is that the interim capability can be obtained without major revisions to classical TACS elements provided with 407L485L capabilities by proper design of the drone control facility.
