Abstract:
A screening program was conducted to determine the most applicable elastomer that could be economically fabricated into ammunition barrier bags having the following characteristics Resistant to water-vapor permeation, functional over the temperature range from ambient to -40 F, and resistant to stress relaxation. Of the seventeen elastomers evaluated, EPR had the best combination of the desired properties. Water-vapor transmission-rate WVTR DETERMINATIONS WERE MADE ON EPR and butyl rubbers compounded with various types of carbon-black reinforcing fillers and processing oils. An injection mold for rubber barrier bags was designed, manufactured, and used in the efficient and economical production of EPR bags. Author, modified-PL
