Abstract:

The Binomial Distribution and the Incomplete Beta-Function Ratio or Pearson Type I distribution are probability distributions which are of great importance in both the theory of probability and in its applications. The binomial probabilities which are generated from q P to the nth power, where n is an integer and q p 1, constitute a discrete probability distribution which has very wide application. Since the transition from the binomial distribution to the Incomplete Beta-Function requires only a simple change in parameters, which function one should tabulate is theoretically unimportant. The choice, however, is one of considerable practical importance. It is believed that the tabulation of the binomial distribution in the format of these tables is favored by many applied statisticians, especially in view of the widespread use of binomial probabilities in industrial and Government problems, in sampling inspection, and in statistical analyses generally.
