Several major design efforts were completed for the E. O. Research Facility at Cloudcroft, New Mexico with the objectives of updating and improving the facility. The significance of these efforts to the Air Force is that important new technical capabilities have been achieved for conducting in-house laboratory R and D on electro-optical and infrared sensor and data processing techniques for aerospace surveillance. This will enable the AF avionics Laboratory to better support Technical Needs and Required Operational Capabilities of AFSC Systems Divisions and AF Operational Commands. These design efforts included a mount for an IR Radiometer, a spectral and polarizing filter servo system, and multiple camera mount, all items intended to be mounted on the 48 inch telescope. Other significant efforts involved design, fabrication and installation of a 3000 pound counterweight for the 48 inch telescope design, fabrication and installation of windscreen motor mounts and chain guides extensive mofifications and additions to the FSR-2 building and the determination and selection of improved digital encoders for the 48 inch telescope.
