The objective of this program was to design, develop, fabricate and test a marker which provides high contrast white, orange, and red smokes as well as a red flame for use in personnelequipment rescue and recovery operations from both land and water surface. Design and development effort was conducted on four different rescue marker signals as follows 1 LUU-8B Ground-Marine Smoke Signal white smoke, 2 LUU-9B Ground-Marine Smoke Signal red flame , 3 LUU-10B Signal orange smoke. These four units are common to each other in external configuration and utilize common metal parts. The primary differences are found in the chemical compositions which are burned to produce the signals. Development of the white, red, and orange smoke units was completed satisfactorily during this program, and these units are now ready for initial production.
