Abstract:

This report summarizes the investigations of Ti-6Al-4V continuously rolled sheet and hand-mill sheet developed for the SST. The mechanical properties evaluated included tensile, compression, fracture toughness, stress corrosion resistance, crack growth rate, and fatigue properties. Extensive metallurgical analyses were conducted, and in many cases a quantitative relationship was determined between metallurgical parameters and several material properties. A wide variation in properties was a direct result of wide variations in chemical composition and mill processing. The most significant variables were oxygen content and preferred orientation, K sub scc being the property most affected.
