Abstract:

During the past quarter efforts have continued along the lines of investigation outlined in the last quarterly report. Both the gap distribution and the conditional gap distribution of the Markov model are expressed as sums of exponentials. The identification of the model is based upon the calculation of conditional gap distribution P for a conditional set of m objects that have the property nsub j for a given set of nsub j such that the events nsub j or n nsub j 1 are approximately equiprobable. These distributions are approximated by sums of exponentials. Extensive calculations from the data are used to determine the coefficient of these functions with the best fit. In the code evaluation area further simulation has been performed on the majority-decodable codes. The decoding of binary 15,7 and 31,16 codes are simulated with results compared. The results indicate that majority-logic decoding schemes perform better than the BCH decoding scheme. The margin of improvement depends on the code selected. Efforts have been continued on the development of further theoretical understanding of the effectiveness of error detection on channels.
