Abstract:
The photoionization kinetics of a barium plasma under furnace conditions has been further investigated. The diode technique which is capable of following the photoionization kinetics has been perfected so that quantitative information about the photoionization of both ground state and excited states of barium can be obtained. The oscillator strength of the strong autoionization transition at 2380 was determined using absorption techniques. A comparison of this value approximately .002 with the diode measurements yielded a diode factor of approximately .25. Relative f numbers for several other ground state autoionization transitions were also obtained with the diode. These compared favorably with recent value given by Hudson.
