This report describes a program of work undertaken to develop a fast, high speed, photomultiplier tube for laser communications at 0.53 micron wavelength. A compact, low power tube was designed and fabricated using a silicon diode junction multiplier. Output pulse rise time of 0.2 nanosecond, and pulsewidth of 0.7 nanosecond at 10 percent of pulse height were obtained. Electron gain of 1000 was measured.
