Abstract:
Computer Sciences Corporation has summarized a discussion of factors which impinge on the selection of digital modulation rates. Attached to the summary are two other papers bearing on the problem. The first is a paper presented at the International Conference on Communications, session 12, June 14, 1971 in Montreal, Canada. The second is extracted from Report No. 405600-1-3, 2 January, 1969, prepared for the Defense Communications Agency under Contract No. DCA100-67-C-0016. The conclusions reached based on this document are 1 The selection of rates is constrained not by technical limitations but by cost factors taken in the context of the overall network under consideration. 2 A significant aspect of rate selection for advanced digital communication networks is the ease of interface with DCA and other networks. 3 Long association with the problem leads to the recommendation that the most desirable rate selection would be that set forth in the DCA standards.
