Abstract:

This report describes material development property testing and environmental testing of advanced composites for use in spacecraft and missiles. Mechanical and physical properties of boronepoxy, boronaluminum, high-strength and high-modulus graphite epoxy systems were determined at temperatures from -320 F to 350 F. Effects of moisture, fungus, thermal shock, thermal cycling, and acoustic vibration tests are described. A design allowable test program on three specific systems Courtalds HT-SX-904, Celanese GY-70HM-SX-904, and BORSIC A1 monolayer diffusion-bonded composites WERE PERFORMED TO SATISFY STRUCTURAL DESIGN AND ANALYSIS REQUIREMENTS.
