Abstract:

The purpose of this program was to provide the Air Force with reduced arming time BLU-49B fuzes, a modified BLU-49B bomb for use in the SUU-30BB, SUU-51B, Mark 7, and guided dispensers, and interface components which would allow packaging of the modified BLU-49B in these dispensers. The program involved design, development, fabrication, and testing. The results of the program were a 0.35-second fuze, a 3.0-second fuze, a BLU-87B bomb, and interface components that allow packaging of the BLU-87B bomb in the SUU-30BB, SUU-51B, and Mark 7 dispensers. The absence of information on guided dispensers precluded the design of interface components to package the BLU-87B in guided dispensers. The fuzes, bombs, and dispensers developed will provide the Air Force with new munition systems capable of being delivered at reduced altitudes and slant ranges with a commensurate increase in accuracy and terminal effects.
