The advanced development and investigation of two types of dashpot mechanisms are discussed a liquid annular orifice device LAOD used as a munition times and a shear flow orifice device SHEARFLOD used as an arming mechanism. The accuracy and characteristics of the LAOD as a timing device were investigated at temperatures ranging from -65 to 165 F. The arming time of the SHEAFLOD mechanism was evaluated with regard to variations in temperature and spin rate. Also, the two mechanisms were combined into a munition fuze designed to take advantage of their unique timing functions. This safe-arming dashpot munition SADM fuze was evaluated as to ruggedness, reliability, operations, and safey through a selected series of environmental tests. Author
