Abstract:

The paper discusses four basic configurations of equipment having self-disable features. The various cost differentials which are incurred with each configuration are explained and are incorporated in mathematical expressions of true operating cost per equipment-day. Trade-off analyses which must be made prior to selection of a particular configuration are illustrated. Tables of simplified equations are provided to allow easy determination of cost effectiveness of a particular design when reasonable estimates of all pertinent parameters are available. Author
