Abstract:

Work in six specific areas is described Accelerated test correlation Hot-pressed solid lubricant compacts Effect of additives on solid lubricant film performance Application of the AFSL-28 solid lubricant film Lubricant evaluation and New applications. Evaporation rate studies with hot-pressed solid lubricant compacts in UHV ultra-high vacuum were initiated. The two materials, CaF2 BaF2 AlPO4 Ag with Al2O3 and Si3N4 additives, have wear rates significantly lower than the best high temperature material developed earlier. The function and performance of additives to resin bonded MoS2 films were investigated. The best film performance was observed for combined additives of Sb2O3 BCM and Sb2O3 ZnO. Results of tests on spherical bearings containing hot-pressed solid lubricant compact inserts show that these compacts can be successfully used in this type of application. Author
