Because of the critical nature of stresses in graphite components of high pressure nozzles and because of the variability of bulk graphite materials, a substantial nondestructive testing effort was applied to the bulk graphite used for the nozzles and in the post-firing analysis. This volume of the final report presents the results of the NDT work. Included in the nondestructive testing were visual examination, density determination, alcohol wipe, radiography, pulse echo, and ultrasonic velocity mapping. Grades PO3, 9326, CFZ, and some ATJ were used in the program. For the premium grades of bulk graphite used, no obviously harmful defects were detected during the course of the program. Several irregularities observed in the NDT were found to have no measurable effect on performance in the nozzles. The limited rocket motor testing program did not permit the establishment of definitive failure criteria for the bulk graphite. Author
