Abstract:

The basic issues of high-power audio-frequency amplification are reviewed. A study of a class of high-frequency switching sonar transmitters is presented. Basic design considerations for linear, baseband, switching, and high-frequency switching amplifiers are discussed. The application of presently available solid state devices to power amplification is considered. System and circuit considerations lead to the development of the current-controlled two-state modulation system. The operation of the current-controlled two-state modulation system as an audio power amplifier is analyzed. System characteristics are related to design parameters, and the design of a 1000 VA, 3.5 kHz amplifier is presented. A 500 VA breadboard circuit is used to evaluate this concept. Author
