Abstract:

An extensive study of the decomposition of ammonium perchlorate AP with and without additives has been reported in several recent review articles, and it has been recognized that the reaction mechanism during the catalyzed decomposition of AP differs from that of the uncatalyzed reaction. In the authors studies of the physical and chemical parameters that control ignition and deflagration of solid propellants, they have concentrated on quantitative examination of the potential contribution of surface-catalyzed reactions between AP, catalyst, and gaseous organic molecules, representative of the fuel binder in an operational propellant.
