The report presents the results of a program conducted to directly compare the resolution-energy characteristics of active covert 700-900 nm infrared photography with 5424 infrared film to that of an image intensifier coupled to selected films. It is shown that the intensifier camera can produce equal or better resolution 35-40 lpmm with approximately 17 the energy. If a moderate reduction in resolution to 20 lpmm is tolerable, the energy requirements can be satisfied with 2 12 the level required for direct infrared film photography. The ability to calculate and predict the resolution and corresponding energy requirements of an image intensifier camera in the field is also demonstrated. Author
