The presence of strong electromagnetic fields on a ship may cause large interfering signals to be introduced into some electronic circuits of ship fire control systems. Under large signal conditions, practically all active electronic circuits are forced into saturation, producing highly nonlinear operation. This report describes a mathematical model for the nonlinear behavior of an overdriven IF-amplifier stage. The model is based on a piece-by-piece linearization of the nonlinear differential equations representing the electronic circuit. State-space methods are then applied to solve the resulting system of linear differential equations. A developmental computer program was written in CAL-language to implement the mathematical model.
