Abstract:

When duplicate tapes are recorded from previously recorded ANAQS-13 sonar data, care must be taken to maintain the relative phase and amplitude characteristics of the multiplexed sonar half-beam data. Except for the nonuniform characteristics of the tape and tape recorder flutter, distortion introduced on the duplicate tape will be due to either or both nonlinear phase characteristics or nonuniform amplitude characteristics of the dubbing system. The report describes a the method used to determine the relative phase response of an unequalized dubbing system, b the application of the technique, and c the equalization used to eliminate the unwanted distortion from the system.
