Abstract:
A review is given of R and D procedures and funding practices with suggestions for upgrading performance in the development of turbine engines. Included in a wide ranging analysis of the R and D process are proposal for 1 better control and more funds for research and exploratory development, 2 limits to development toward model qualification of Advanced Turbine Engine Gas Generator ATEGG cores, 3 alteration of the current practice of demonostration engine tests in the advanced development stage by adopting commensurate precursor programs, 4 adequate wind tunnel and altitude testing to mitigate the likelihood of costly mismatches between engine and airframe in programs proceeding from advanced development to operational system development.
