The goal of the program is to develop a structural material for use in gas turbines having a specific strength considerably greater than currently available high-strength columbium alloys and having oxidation resistance sufficient to provide 200 hours life at 2200F and significant life, under load, at temperatures up to 2500F. The operating temperatures and strength goals are beyond the range of nickel- and cobalt-base superalloys which have maximum temperature capabilities of about 1900F. Author
