The objective of the program was the establishment of an industrial capability to fit delay lines with acoustic transducers that meet design tolerances. The specific objectives fall under these major headings Microwave Acoustic transducer and Delay Line Development Development of Quantity Manufacturing Processes Operation of Pilot Production Line and Preparation of Transducer and Delay Line Specifications. Microwave acoustic transducers having superior performance, reproducibility, reliability and manufacturability were developed, using zinc oxide and advanced sputtering deposition techniques. Also undertaken was the identification and characterization of microwave delay lines to represent the results of the transducer fabrication. In addition, the necessary techniques, tooling and manufacturing processes were developed for production of microwave acoustic transducers and delay units were produced in a pilot production line to demonstrate the completeness of the manufacturing program.
