The Automatic Cartographic System ACS Mod II comprises a set of computer programs for use at the Experimental Cartographic Facility at Rome Air Development Center RADC. These programs process cartographic data in digital form to develop techniques of automated sympolization, editing, color separation, generalization, sectioning, and paneling. Section I of Volume I is the study and investigation behind the development of the Mod II system. It describes the mathematical techniques and algorithms that were developed and considered for expanding the earlier Mod I system. Section II of Volume I is the users manual, containing the information necessary for operating the Mod II ACS. Volume II AD-868 473 of the report is a Programmers Manual which documents the programming principles involved in this expansible system. Author
