Analysis of noise in linear two-ports is approached from the wave amplitude point of view. Different methods of representing noise in a network are discussed and a matrix equation is derived to find the noise figure of a cascade of networks. A set of Stokes parameters is used to derive an expression for the effective input noise temperature for various values of source impedance and making use of the Stokes parameters, a set of linear equations is obtained which can be solved to get the values of the noise parameters and the input impedance corresponding to minimum noise.
