Abstract:

The effects of uniform surface blowing on the hypersonic boundary layer with viscous interaction are investigated analytically and experimentally. For strong and moderate viscous interaction, the heat transfer on a flat plate and a slender wedge is calculated by use of the local similarity technique to solve the boundary layer equations and the tangent wedge approximation to determine the inviscid pressure. The experiments are conducted at Mach numbers of 16 and 20, at unit Reynolds numbers of 2.3 and 130,000ft, and at the cold wall condition. The analytical and experimental results are in good agreement. For moderate blowing, it is found that the effects of viscous interaction dominate the flow when the interaction is strong and that the effects of blowing become more important as the strength of the viscous interaction decreases.
