Abstract:

A test of the commercially produced marginal terrain vehicle, having a 600-pound payload capacity rating, was conducted to determine the vehicles mobility capabilities in water, swamp, and muddy terrain. The test was sponsored by the U. S. Army Tank-Automotive Command USATAC in an effort to determine possible suitability of the vehicle as a small load carrier over the terrains mentioned. The XE-4 Armadillo tracked amphibian, developed by the U. S. Army Mobility Equipment Research and Development Center USAMERDC, Fort Belvoir, Virginia, was used as a comparison vehicle on a go, no-go basis during mobility operations at all test sites except the lily pad marsh terrain at Chickahominy River site and on paved surfaces.
