Abstract:

An investigation of possible catalyst contamination was made in support of the Titan IIIC Transtage program. Hydrazine was decomposed in a 5-pound thrustor using the Transtage attitude-control system ACSduty cycle. Each test catalyst was subjected to the duty cycle three times. Shell 405 catalyst samples which had been exposed to nitrogen tetroxide and UDMHN2H4 5050 were tested. A sample of Shell 405 was tested with hydrazine containing 2.5 aniline by weight. A Shell 405 type catalyst containing approximately half the normal active material was tested. All four samples survived the tests. All four samples performed essentially the same as a baseline sample of uncontaminated Shell 405 in neat hydrazine. Author
