Abstract:

This report deals with the design problems associated with electromagnetic compatibility in the Mallard radio systems and is intended to help the equipment designer ensure that the complex of radio transmitters and receivers, constituting a typical node in a Mallard network, will operate successfully with a minimum of mutual interference, despite the wide range of frequencies and power levels involved. The report presents what is virtually a comparative register of approved designs, listing the characteristics of alternative circuits for each function, so that the designers may, with a minimum of effort, select the circuit best suited to their purpose. This is supported by comments of a general nature forming guidelines of good design and by a bibliography. It is important to note that it does not cover the subjects of frequency assignment, allocation etc., but only deals with circuit techniques which should be used to minimise mutual interference. Although written specifically around Mallard, it is applicable to any complex radio communication system. Author
