Abstract:

The technical limitations of the determination of the vertical turbidity factor of the upper layers optically by the measurement of the degree of backscattering of a beam generated by a ground-based laser are examined. In these computations the energy of the signals backscattered from different heights is calculated for a model atmosphere.
