Two studies are combined in the report, a simple treatment of the take-off mechanism and an analysis of the hull resistance during take-off. In the first part, a method for calculating the basic take-off distance is given and two approximate solutions are presented indicating the additional distance required to move the craft in vertical direction. Examples of take-off distance are given for several designs. In the second part, the hull resistance is investigated as a function of unloading. This problem is studied analytically, using simplified hull models and approximate relations for the various types of resistance. Experimental data are given and these are correlated with the analytical expressions. A simple type of unloading function is recommended for use in analytical investigations. Author
