Abstract:
This report describes a FORTRAN IV program for estimating the aerodynamic force and moment coefficients for unguided ballistic rockets. The program is limited to two types of forebodies cone cyclinders and tangent ogive cylinders. The afterbody is limited to conical flares or conical boattails. The data are confined to the linear region of the coefficient curve with angle of attack. Wings andor tail may be deflected in a plane. Both supersonic and subsonic Mach numbers may be handled, but some subroutines are not valid in the transonic region. Newtonian impact theory is used to extend data to the high supersonic region. Wing and tail effectiveness includes all interference factors. Body and control surface skin friction drag is calculated for either laminar or turbulent flow. Fin and wing wave drag is included. Estimates of base drag are made for both power-on and power-off conditions. Some of the estimates are interpolations from data tables based on experiment and theory. Input requirements are limited to basic independent parameters. A FORTRAN listing of the program is included in the report. Author
